Living with MS is a constant reminder that reality isn't always what it seems.
Let's start with Pain.
I used to believe there needed to be some sort of physical trauma for pain.
Then, MS hit.
I had a burning sensation going up my leg, starting at the ankle, traveling up the inside of my calf, across the knee, and then up my outer thigh to my hip.
If felt as if I had a horrible sunburn.
I couldn't wear pants or sleep under a blanket for weeks.
Yet, nothing was there. No burn, no irritation, nothing.
Was the pain real?
If felt real.
But is it real pain when it starts and ends in the brain?
That's what happens with MS. The myelin covering your nerves gets destroyed by your immune system leading to all sorts of issues.
Slowly is burning traversed most of my body, and now, I don't feel anything anymore.
I can pick up a hot pan out of oven, burn my hand, and not feel a thing.
And here's the thing, I constantly have pains shooting through different areas of my body. Is it real, or is it MS?
Does it matter?
It does to me...
